CalTrak is a calorie, nutrition, hydration, and weight tracking app developed by Blaz Apps. CalTrak is local-first: your food log, custom foods, saved meals, profile, goals, reminders, Health data, and preferences stay on your device unless you choose to connect a service, sign in, search online food databases, export data, or use an AI feature.
If CalTrak offers paid subscriptions, purchases and restores are handled by the App Store or Google Play. Restoring a subscription does not require a CalTrak account. The app may store a local subscription status snapshot so paid in-app features remain available on that device.
You can use CalTrak without signing in where local and direct-provider features are available. If you choose to create a CalTrak account, authentication is handled by AWS Cognito. You may sign in with email/password or, when available, with Google or Apple through Cognito Hosted UI. CalTrak does not receive your password. The app stores backend access and refresh tokens in the platform secure store.
Signed-in requests to the CalTrak backend may be used for online food lookup, CalTrak AI parsing, quotas, entitlement checks, abuse prevention, and user-scoped AI parse caching. CalTrak AI requires both a signed-in CalTrak account and an active App Store or Google Play subscription.
CalTrak stores the following data locally on your device:
Uninstalling the app deletes the app's local data from that device. Some data may also exist in Apple Health or Health Connect if you chose to sync it there.
If you connect Health Connect on Android or Apple Health on iOS, CalTrak reads and writes Nutrition, Hydration, and Weight records with your permission. CalTrak may also read active energy or exercise energy records to help show calories burned and daily trends. This data is exchanged only between the app and the health service on your device. CalTrak does not transmit Health Connect or Apple Health data to the CalTrak backend.
CalTrak uses health data only to provide the in-app tracking and sync features you request. We do not sell health data, use it for advertising, or share it with third parties. You can revoke access at any time in CalTrak settings or in the system health app.
CalTrak's optional AI features can parse a meal from text or a photo only after you choose to send that content. Health Connect and Apple Health data are not included in AI requests.
If you are signed in and use CalTrak AI, the text or image you submit is sent to the secure CalTrak service, which forwards it to the configured AI provider and may cache the structured parse result for your account to reduce repeated AI cost and support quotas.
If you use the bring-your-own-key path, the text or image you submit is sent directly from your device to the provider you selected, using your own API key. Your BYOK API key is stored only on your device and is never sent to the CalTrak backend.
When you search for food or scan a barcode, the search term or barcode number may be sent to the CalTrak backend, USDA FoodData Central, and/or Open Food Facts to retrieve product and nutrition information. If you are signed in and using the backend, CalTrak may cache public food lookup results globally; these cache rows are not scoped to your account.
The camera is used for on-device barcode scanning. Camera frames for barcode scanning are processed on your device and are not stored or transmitted by CalTrak.
CalTrak can schedule local meal-reminder notifications on your device. These reminders are generated locally. If you reply to a reminder and have enabled AI parsing, the reply text is processed as described in the AI section above. If AI parsing is unavailable or times out, the app may save your reply text locally as a quick-add note so the entry is not lost.
CalTrak can export recent diary data to a CSV file when you choose to share or save it. The exported file may include food names, portions, nutrients, meal types, and times from your log. The file is created only after you start the export, and sharing is handled by the system share sheet and the destination you choose.
CalTrak does not contain advertising SDKs and does not sell your data. We do not use your data for third-party advertising or tracking. Data is shared only for the user-initiated features described above, such as authentication, purchases/restores through the app stores, food lookups, Health sync, AI parsing, and exports you choose to share.
Local data remains on your device until you delete it in the app, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Health Connect and Apple Health data are managed by you in the system health app. Backend AI parse cache rows expire automatically. CalTrak is not directed to children under 13 or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction, and we do not knowingly collect data from children.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, the effective date at the top of this page will change. Material changes will be reflected on this page.
